Women's Jeans Size Calculator
Find your denim waist size, compare US ready-to-wear equivalents, and identify whether a standard or curvy-cut waistband will eliminate back gaping.
Waist-to-Hip Fit Profile
- 100% Rigid Cotton: Has zero give. If your waist or hip measurement sits on the higher edge of your calculated size, consider sizing up by 1 inch for sitting comfort.
- 1–2% Elastane (Comfort Stretch): True to size. Conforms to curves while maintaining structural shape without bagging out.
- 3%+ Super Stretch: Hugs like leggings. If between sizes, size down to avoid slipping during wear.
How to Measure for Women's Jeans
-
1
Measure your natural waist
Wrap the tape around the narrowest part of your torso (typically 1 inch above your belly button). This measurement determines your waist size in inches (e.g. 28 inches = Size 28).
-
2
Measure your fullest low hip
Stand with feet together and measure around the widest point of your seat and hips. Comparing your hip and waist measurements reveals whether you need standard or curvy-fit denim.
-
3
Measure your inseam
Measure along the inside of your leg from the crotch seam down to where you want the denim hem to rest (ankle bone for crops, top of shoe for straight cuts, or floor for flares).
Frequently Asked Questions
Most contemporary denim brands label waist size by natural waist circumference in inches (e.g., Size 27 corresponds to a 27-inch natural waist, roughly equivalent to a standard US Size 4).
Curvy-fit jeans feature a contoured waistband engineered with a higher hip-to-waist ratio (typically an 11.5-inch or greater delta). They are designed specifically to eliminate the gap at the back of the waistband while accommodating fuller hips, buttocks, and thighs without pinching.
Waistband gaping occurs when jeans are sized up to accommodate wider hips or fuller thighs, leaving excess fabric around a narrower natural waist. If your hip measurement is 11.5 inches or more larger than your waist, curvy-fit denim solves this problem by using a contoured waistband cut with a higher waist-to-hip differential.
Rigid 100% cotton denim will not permanently stretch, though it will mold gently to your body warmth after 20–30 minutes of wear; buy strictly according to your true measurements. In contrast, denim with 1% to 2% elastane provides comfort flexibility, while high-stretch fabrics (3% to 4%+ elastane) can relax up to half a size during the day.
